Technology in Business: How it’s changing the Workplace

Technology influences every corner of our lives. From our smartphone waking us up in the morning right through to watching Netflix before we nod off to sleep. People can argue whether it is having a positive or negative influence on our lives. But one thing that can’t be argued is that it has changed how we do things. This is more evident in business than most places. Here is how technology in business is changing the way we work:
Less Free Time
Technology in business has allowed better access to our work. We can check emails, reports and news from nearly every location. This is thanks to factors such as smartphones and public Wi-Fi. Often people replace their work desktop for their laptop as soon as they get home. While this can help get more things done, it also takes away a lot of enjoyment from our lives.
Increased Focus
The huge rise of social media has meant that people are under a constant microscope. Companies can see what their employees are doing in their personal lives, they can also use it to check whether or not they want to hire a person. This has made it more important than ever to ensure that anything that can be used against us doesn’t make it online. It has also meant that companies have to be socially aware. They are always one tweet away from a PR disaster.
More Connectivity
Technology has meant that we are constantly connected. Whether that is being able to speak to someone on FaceTime halfway across the world, or being able to send a targeted promotional email. It has meant that it’s easier than ever to target individuals with promotional materials. But has also meant that it can be harder to fulfil the needs of the consumer. As businesses get more connectivity, customers get access to more information. Meaning they can make more informed decisions about their purchases.
Technology in Business: Mobile
If you are a company that has an online presence – and you should be – then an increased focus on mobile compatibility is going to happen. People have instant access to the web on their phones and it is becoming the most used platform for internet browsing. Google is now changing its algorithm to add more value to mobile-friendly websites. Let us put it this way: if you don’t adapt to being mobile-friendly, then you are going to struggle.
